The grandson of the last Ottoman Sultan, Sultan Vahdettin Han, Sultanzade Prince Osman Rifat İbrahim, has passed away. It was reported that Osman Rifat İbrahim suffered a heart attack while traveling on a bus in the daytime in the capital of Spain, Madrid. It was learned that 73-year-old İbrahim was suffering from cancer.
WILL BE BURIED IN SWITZERLAND
According to the information provided by Assoc. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Pazan, a faculty member of the History Department at Istanbul Topkapi University and a historian of the dynasty, the body of Osman Rifat İbrahim (73), who is a member of the Ottoman and Kavalalı dynasties, will be taken to Switzerland after the necessary procedures are completed. The late sultanzade will be buried next to the grave of his father, Prince Amr İbrahim, who passed away in 1977, in the cemetery located in the Pully suburb of Lausanne. The late sultanzade's mother, Necla Hibetullah Sultan, passed away in Madrid in 2006, and her body was brought to Istanbul and buried next to her mother, Rukiye Sabiha Sultan's grave in Aşiyan Cemetery.
WHO IS OSMAN RIFAT İBRAHİM?
Sultanzade Osman Rifat İbrahim, who is also a prince of the Kavalalı dynasty, was the third daughter of Necla Hibetullah Sultan, one of the daughters of the last Ottoman Sultan, Sultan Vahideddin Han, and Rukiye Sabiha Sultan. The father of Necla Hibetullah Sultan was Şehzade Ömer Faruk Efendi, the son of the last caliph, Abdülmecid Efendi, who was one of the sons of Sultan Abdülaziz. The late sultanzade's father, Prince Amr İbrahim, was a member of the Kavalalı dynasty and was the fifth-generation descendant of Kavalalı Mehmed Ali Pasha. Born in Cairo in 1951 during exile and never married, Sultanzade Osman Rifat İbrahim lived in Madrid. He was the president of the Royal Institute Mohammed Ali, which he established in 1991 to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of Mehmed Ali Pasha and his dynasty.
