Regarding the ongoing forest fire in Antakya, Hatay, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı stated that the energy of the region has been reduced. Minister Yumaklı made a statement to the press regarding the forest fires that have saddened the country. He pointed out three main risk factors in forest fires: "High temperature, low humidity, and strong winds. Unfortunately, all three were effective in Hatay at the same time."
During the fire, temperatures rose above 33 degrees. This was just the value measured by the thermometer; the perceived temperature due to the fire was much higher. The wind exceeded 67 kilometers per hour, and we know that with gusty winds, this speed reached up to 100 kilometers. The humidity level dropped below 20 percent.
"OVER 2,700 PERSONNEL INTERVENED IN THE FIRE"
In the fire in Hatay, a total of over 2,700 personnel intervened, including 8 planes, 12 helicopters, water tankers from the forestry organization, and vehicles from other institutions. Citizens living in the neighborhoods of Oğlakören, Dikmece, Gülderen, Karaali, Üçgedik, and Alahan were evacuated to safe areas as a precaution. In this context, over 1,400 citizens from 236 households were evacuated. As of today, they have started to gradually return to their homes. The energy of the region has been reduced. This is a positive development. Our teams will continue cooling efforts throughout the night. During this process, small flare-ups may occur from time to time, but they will be kept under control," he said.
