The first hearing of the case regarding the armed fight that broke out in a café in the Izmit district of Kocaeli, where brothers Hasan and Ahmet Akın lost their lives, was held. The detained defendants did not make a defense during the hearing, which they attended via SEGBİS (the Audio and Visual Information System), while new camera footage that was submitted to the case revealed the horror of the incident.
The first hearing of the case seen at the Kocaeli 3rd Heavy Penal Court was held on September 6, 2024, regarding the armed fight that took place at a café in İzmit Sekapark, resulting in the deaths of two brothers. The detained defendants, Furkan G. and Oğuzhan S., attended the hearing via the Audio and Visual Information System. The defendants stated that they wanted to make their defense in the courtroom and did not make any statements.
THE GUNS SPOKE IN THE FIGHT
According to allegations, the incident began when Hasan Akın, a former employee of the café, demanded the money he was owed. The argument escalated into a fight, during which Hasan Akın and his brother Ahmet Akın were shot. Hasan Akın died on the day of the incident, while Ahmet Akın passed away in the hospital the following day. A total of 13 suspects were detained as part of the investigation, while Furkan G. and Oğuzhan S. were arrested.
10 SHELLS FOUND AT THE CRIME SCENE
According to the reports included in the indictment, 5 bullet entry wounds were found on Hasan Akın's body, while 3 were found on Ahmet Akın's body. A total of 10 empty shells were found at the crime scene. For the defendant Furkan G., two life sentences are requested for the "intentional murder" of the two brothers, while life imprisonment is also sought for the defendant Oğuzhan S. for the "intentional murder" of Hasan Akın.
HEARING ADJOURNED
During the hearing, one of the defendants not in custody, Fahri A., claimed that he was not present at the crime scene, and while in the hospital, he was directed to take a gun from a vehicle, unaware that the weapon was used in the incident. The parents of the deceased brothers stated that they were complaining about the defendants. The court panel decided to continue the detention of the arrested defendants and adjourned the hearing.
NEW FOOTAGE EMERGED
Meanwhile, new security camera footage that entered the case shows moments when the defendant Furkan G. was in a scuffle with Ahmet Akın, during which the other defendant Oğuzhan S. fired shots. The footage reveals that Hasan Akın was caught between two shots, while Ahmet Akın was shot from behind.
