The damage caused by a natural gas explosion in an apartment in the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ, which resulted in the deaths of 2 people and injuries to 2 others, became visible at daybreak. It was determined that Muhammet el Hüseyin, who was alone in the apartment during the explosion, was thrown 60 meters by the force of the blast and fell into the garden, losing his life.

Yesterday at around 23:00 in Çorlu, an explosion occurred in the top floor apartment of the 6-story Adalet Apartmanı located in Cemaliye Mahallesi Borsa Meydanı, where a Syrian family resided. The explosion caused a fire in the apartment. The blast damaged three adjacent apartments on the same floor, partially collapsing the front wall where windows were located. Residents of the building and the area evacuated their homes upon hearing the explosion.

HOMEOWNER DIED, HURLED 60 METERS BY THE FORCE OF THE EXPLOSION

Upon notification, police, medical, fire, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene. The fire in the apartment was extinguished by firefighters. Investigations revealed that Muhammet el Hüseyin (33), who was alone in the apartment during the explosion, was hurled 60 meters by the force of the blast, fell into the garden, and lost his life. Caner Meriç, his wife Songül Meriç, who were in the adjacent apartment during the explosion, and Mehmet Zurnacı (66), who was passing by, were injured. The injured were taken to Çorlu State Hospital for treatment. Caner Meriç, whose condition was critical, could not be saved despite all efforts by doctors. The other injured were reported to have minor injuries.

"SUSPECTED TO BE CAUSED BY NATURAL GAS"

Çorlu District Governor Niyazi Erten came to the scene and monitored the efforts. Speaking to journalists, Erten said, "The explosion is suspected to be caused by natural gas; 89 citizens live in the building. Fire, AFAD, and other teams arrived at the scene. The building was temporarily evacuated. Efforts have been made to meet the shelter needs of our citizens here. One of the 3 injured taken to the hospital has died. In total, the number of fatalities is 2, and 2 people were injured."

DAMAGE REVEALED

The damage caused by the explosion that occurred overnight at Adalet Apartmanı became apparent at daybreak. Citizens evacuated from the building due to the explosion spent the night in hotels or with relatives and came to see their homes. The Syrian family who lived in the apartment where the explosion occurred also arrived in front of the building. Teams from the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change also inspected the building. Çorlu Municipality teams are also continuing their work at the building. Police are not allowing entry to the building, having closed off its surroundings with a security cordon.

"IT WAS A VERY BIG EXPLOSION"

Local resident Nuri Küçükler said, "It's indescribable, it was a very big explosion. People were in shock. When we heard the explosion, we left the house. We had relatives there, we had people there, people living there. We came to the scene; we had relatives, people we know, people living there. When we arrived, of course we were in a panic. We checked all our loved ones and people there to see if they were okay or what happened."
