Tensions rose at the CHP headquarters after Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was reinstated as the CHP Chairman by court decision. Police intervened with tear gas for the evacuation, turning the building into a battlefield. Visibility was near zero, and some party members were seen continuing their watch with gas masks.
Following the Ankara Regional Court of Appeals' decision on the CHP congress case regarding “absolute nullity,” hectic hours are unfolding at CHP headquarters. With the decision reinstating Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as CHP Chairman, tensions have risen within the party. Some CHP members who reject the decision have begun holding a vigil at the headquarters building.
POLICE INTERVENED IN THE BUILDING
Following claims that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu called for “the court decision to be implemented” and the Ankara Governorate's “evacuation” order to the police, law enforcement teams took action.
It was reported that security forces entered the CHP headquarters and intervened. During the intervention aimed at evacuating the building, it was stated that tear gas was used extensively inside.
Supporters of Özgür Özel among CHP members were seen pouring detergent at the building's entrance to make the floors slippery and complicate the evacuation process.
THICK SMOKE INSIDE
After the tear gas, a dense gas cloud formed inside the CHP headquarters. Visibility was severely limited, and some party members inside were seen wearing gas masks.
It was reported that party members, who stated they do not recognize the decision, continued their vigil despite all interventions.
ÖZGÜR ÖZEL: WE WILL NOT LEAVE HERE
Özgür Özel, present at the headquarters, made a video statement on his social media account, saying: “As if obtaining that unlawful decision wasn't enough, they are now at our door. Doors closed, resistance began. Now they have come with police. They want to destroy this building, seize it; we will not leave here. I don't know how long we can hold out.”
