The Istanbul Governorship sent a letter to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, instructing the removal of posters belonging to Ekrem İmamoğlu, as well as Resul Emrah Şahan, Ahmet Özer, Rıza Akpolat, Mehmet Murat Çalık, and Alaattin Köseler, from the city.
The Istanbul Governorship requested the removal of posters of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested as part of a corruption investigation, and other mayors who are currently detained.
REACTION FROM ÖZGÜR ÇELİK
Özgür Çelik, the CHP Istanbul Provincial Chairman, reacted to the situation by sharing the official document on his social media account X, stating, "A letter has been sent to our district chairmanships accompanied by the police. We are supposed to remove the photos and posters of our presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu and our mayors. Let me tell you what we will do; it is my instruction to hang more Ekrem İmamoğlu flags in all our district chairmanships. You will see more of President Ekrem on the balconies of houses, in squares, on streets, and on walls. We will not let you forget the face of the people's will," he said.
WHAT DOES THAT PAPER SAY?
In the document sent from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to the Police Department, it stated, "Regarding Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İMAMOĞLU, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah ŞAHAN, Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet ÖZER, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza AKPOLAT, Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat ÇALIK, and Beykoz Mayor Alaattin KÖSELER, it has been determined that posters and banners of a propaganda nature, as well as some that encourage illegal meetings and demonstrations related to these individuals, have been hung throughout Istanbul. Therefore, in accordance with Article 27 of Law No. 2911 and Article 42 of Law No. 5326, it is requested that the aforementioned posters and banners be prohibited and necessary measures be taken," the statement read.
