Sulaymaniyah Governor Heval Ebubekir warned the public not to approach the scene in a statement to local media. Ebubekir said, "I urge the people of Sulaymaniyah not to go to the scene. We are on the brink of World War III."

Emphasizing that the Kurds should not be involved in this war, Ebubekir also called on international powers, stating, "We ask them not to bring their wars to our country."
