The first response from the Kremlin came after U.S. President Trump's complete cut of military aid to Ukraine. The statement included the phrase, "If the U.S. halts arms shipments to Ukraine, it will have made the greatest contribution to peace."
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the U.S. has been the biggest supporter of the war in Ukraine so far, saying, "If the U.S. stops arms shipments to Ukraine, it will have made the greatest contribution to peace."
Peskov answered journalists' questions regarding the agenda in the capital Moscow. He expressed that they welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's desire to bring peace to Ukraine, noting that if the U.S. were to cut military support to Ukraine, it could push the Kiev administration towards the peace process.
"THE U.S. HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST SUPPORTER OF THE WAR SO FAR"
Peskov recalled that some European countries have made statements indicating they will continue their support for Ukraine, stating, "The U.S. has been the biggest supporter of the war so far. If the U.S. stops arms shipments to Ukraine, it will have made the greatest contribution to peace."
"OUR POSITION ON SANCTIONS IS WELL KNOWN"
In response to the question, "Will the lifting of U.S. sanctions against Russia contribute to the improvement of bilateral relations?" Peskov pointed out that no official statement has been made by the U.S. on this matter, stating, "In any case, our position on sanctions is well known. These sanctions are illegal. Bilateral relations need to be freed from the negative burden of the imposed sanctions."
"WE WELCOME INITIATIVES TOWARDS SOLVING THE CRISIS"
Spokesman Peskov emphasized that they have not forgotten that Trump imposed sanctions on Russia and provided arms shipments to Ukraine during his first presidential term. Evaluating the possibility of Belarus acting as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, Peskov pointed out that the Ukrainian crisis is addressed in every meeting between the Russian and Belarusian leaders, stating, "We welcome any initiatives aimed at resolving this crisis."
