Between 2024 and 2025, there was an increase of 530 billion TL in consumer loans, while the amount of loans that have fallen into legal collection since the beginning of the year reached 328 billion TL. Since the beginning of the year, the amount of loans that have fallen into legal follow-up has reached 328 billion 754 million TL.

CITIZENS' LOAN BURDEN INCREASED BY 530 BILLION LIRA

According to BDDK's weekly data on February 21, 2025, consumer loans reached 2 trillion 92 billion TL, while debts on individual credit cards amounted to 1 trillion 875 billion TL. Last year, during the week of February 23, consumer loans totaled 1 trillion 562 billion TL, indicating an increase of 530 billion 828 million TL in citizens' loan burden over the course of a year by the same period in 2025.

NEED LOANS ARE THE MOST USED

As citizens' borrowing continues to rise every day, there has been a total increase of 73 billion TL in consumer loans since the beginning of the year. The largest share of consumer loans is in need loans, amounting to 1 trillion 492 billion TL, while housing loans rank second with 531 billion TL. According to BDDK's data dated February 21, there has also been an increase in the amount of loans that have fallen into follow-up. The amount of non-performing loans has reached 328 billion 754 million TL. The consumer loans that banks could not collect and that have fallen into follow-up exceeded 69 billion TL, while this amount for individual credit cards was 68 billion 902 million TL.
