The Chinese car manufacturer BYD has signed its largest recall decision in history by recalling more than 115,000 vehicles. The reason for the recall is reported to be design flaws and battery-related safety risks in the Tang series and Yuan Pro produced between 2015 and 2022.
TWO MODELS WITH BATTERY PROBLEMS
According to a statement from China's market regulator, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), BYD plans to recall 44,535 units of the Tang series SUV. It was determined that design flaws in some components of these vehicles, produced between March 2015 and July 2017, could lead to functional failures.
Additionally, the company will recall 71,248 Yuan Pro electric vehicles produced between February 2021 and August 2022 due to production issues in battery assembly.
In January, BYD recalled 6,843 Fangchengbao Bao 5 hybrid SUV models due to fire risk. Prior to this, in September 2024, approximately 97,000 Dolphin and Yuan Plus electric vehicles were recalled due to a manufacturing defect in the steering control unit that posed a fire risk.
OVER 200,000 VEHICLES RECALLED IN A YEAR
With the latest decision, BYD has recalled more than 200,000 vehicles in total within a year. Experts point out that despite the company's rapid growth, issues in quality control processes have become increasingly visible.
