A decision has been made in the lawsuit for moral damages filed against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir due to their statements regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek. The court ruled that both individuals must pay 150,000 lira each in compensation.

The court has made a decision in the case of moral compensation filed against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir due to their statements about Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek.

The case was heard in the Istanbul 20th Civil Court of First Instance. The plaintiff Akın Gürlek's lawyer and the defendants' lawyers, Özgür Özel and Murat Emir, attended the hearing.

"PERSONAL RIGHTS WERE VIOLATED"

The plaintiff Gürlek's lawyer stated that the statements in question violated his client's personal rights and requested the acceptance of the case.

DEFENSE: THE STATEMENTS ARE OF A POLITICAL CRITICAL NATURE

Özgür Özel's lawyer emphasized that his client is the leader of the main opposition party. The lawyer argued that the statements in question are political and critical in nature, and therefore requested the dismissal of the case.

THE COURT ACCEPTED

The judge of the court ruled for the acceptance of the case after the parties' statements. According to the decision, Özgür Özel will pay 150,000 lira in moral compensation as part of the main case, and Murat Emir will pay 150,000 lira in moral compensation as part of the joined case.

The court decided that the determined compensation amounts would be paid to the plaintiff Akın Gürlek along with the legal interest accruing from the date of the lawsuit.

REASONS FOR THE LAWSUIT

The lawsuit petition was prepared and submitted to the court based on the statements made by Özgür Özel during the CHP's group meeting on June 17, 2025, and by Murat Emir during a press conference he held in June 2025, directed at Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek.
