The grandchildren of Abdulhamid II filed a claim for rights and initiated an inheritance lawsuit 15 years ago for numerous properties, including Galatasaray Island and Veliefendi Meadow. After years of legal proceedings, the court ruled that the 71 claimants are heirs of Abdulhamid II, but did not order the transfer of the properties to the heirs. It is expected that the heirs will seek different legal avenues.
The grandchildren of Abdulhamid II had filed a lawsuit for the rights to numerous properties, including Galatasaray Island, Veliefendi Meadow, and Kabataş Square.
According to a report by NTV, the Istanbul 12th Civil Court of Peace ruled that 71 individuals are the heirs of Abdulhamid II after a 15-year legal process. However, the court did not rule for the transfer of the properties to the heirs.
THE LIST IS QUITE LONG
It is stated that among the properties claimed by the heirs, there is a list that includes Galatasaray Island, a 30-acre garden in Dolmabahçe, and a mill plot in Galata, as well as Kabataş Square.
THE LAW ENACTED IN 1924 POSES A BARRIER
However, the law enacted in 1924 regarding the Abolition of the Caliphate and the Exile of the Ottoman Dynasty from Turkey poses a barrier to claims regarding the properties of the sultan.
HEIRS MAY PURSUE DIFFERENT LEGAL AVENUES
Although the decision confirms the inheritance certificate, it does not contain any authority regarding any transfer process. It is noted that it is possible for the heirs to pursue different legal avenues.
