An attempted sexual assault took place at a temple in the Nigdi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, a city in India's Maharashtra state.
According to information in the local press, a girl who came to the temple to pray was targeted by a worker at a metro construction site while she was alone inside.
It was reported that the suspect approached the child, cornered her, and attempted to commit sexual assault. The incident was captured by the temple's security camera.
SHE ESCAPED BY RESISTING
According to information reported in the local press regarding the security camera footage, the girl managed to save herself by resisting the attacker.
When the child screamed, the suspect tried to move away from the scene. With the intervention of nearby people who heard the cries for help, the suspect was caught and handed over to the police.
SUSPECT ARRESTED
Following the incident, the Nigdi police took action and detained a suspect named Vishal Singh, who worked as a subcontracted worker at the metro construction site.
Mahesh Bansode, senior inspector of the Nigdi Police Station, confirmed that the suspect had been arrested. Legal proceedings were initiated against Singh under Section 74 of the Indian Penal Code and the relevant sections of the POCSO Act concerning the protection of children from sexual offenses.
SECURITY CAMERA FOOTAGE BEING EXAMINED
The footage of the incident captured by the temple's security cameras is among the important evidence in the investigation.
After the incident, local residents demanded that measures be increased, especially regarding the safety of children, and that security checks for people working on construction projects be tightened. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
