In the Körfez district of Kocaeli, the defendant, who claimed he found a tracksuit belonging to his friend in his bedroom and killed his wife with 8 stab wounds two days before his daughter's wedding, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment.

In the incident that occurred on October 31, 2025, on the first floor of a 3-story apartment building on Çınar Street in Esentepe Neighborhood of the Körfez district, Ramazan Gökmen (48) stabbed and killed Binnur Gökmen (43), the mother of his 4 children. The suspect then attempted suicide by wounding himself with the same knife and was arrested by the court he was brought before after his treatment. The unfortunate woman was deprived of life just 2 days before the wedding of her daughter N.A., which was planned to take place on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

The indictment prepared regarding the murder of Binnur Gökmen stated that Ramazan Gökmen claimed his wife was cheating on him and that he also opposed the marriage of their eldest daughter, Nur A., and that he therefore had arguments with his wife.

THE CHILDREN COMPLAINED ABOUT THEIR FATHER

The second hearing of the case opened against Ramazan Gökmen on the charge of 'premeditated intentional killing of a spouse and a woman' continued to be heard at Kocaeli 4th Heavy Penal Court. The detained defendant Ramazan Gökmen, the parties' lawyers, and the couple's daughters attended the hearing. The report submitted to the court was read, and it was stated that the defendant was mentally sound. The couple's children complained about their father.

Attorney Eray Akbal, the complainant's representative, argued that the incident was premeditated, saying, 'It is clear that the statements regarding infidelity do not reflect the truth. There are 8 stab wounds, 5 of which are fatal in nature. Vital areas such as the neck, ear, and chest were stabbed. The defendant called his wife home under the pretext of reconciliation and killed her. We want him to be punished without benefiting from legal reductions.'

AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The defendant Ramazan Gökmen, however, stated that he had no intent to kill and that the incident occurred against his will.

The court panel announcing its decision sentenced the defendant to aggravated life imprisonment on the charge of 'intentional killing of a spouse and a woman'.

HE DESCRIBED THE TRACKSUIT HE FOUND IN THE BEDROOM

In his defense at the first hearing, Ramazan Gökmen recounted that after problems with his daughter, his relationship with his wife deteriorated, and after being apart for a while, they reconciled. Gökmen, who claimed he suspected his wife was cheating on him, had said, 'I found the tracksuit of my friend G.T., whom I know from the coffeehouse, among my belongings in my bedroom. However, I later called my sister-in-law and said I wanted to reconcile with my wife. My wife agreed to come home on the condition that I receive treatment and quit alcohol. I promised my wife that I would quit alcohol.'

Additionally, regarding the day of the incident, the defendant had stated, 'In the morning, after taking the children to school, she came home. We lay down, and later I noticed that the photo of my late mother had been taken down from where it was hanging. When I asked about this, she said she would not forgive my mother and that she had made her suffer. I said, 'What about what you have done? Another person's tracksuit turned up in my closet,' and we argued. Binnur told me that I was not a man, that she had a lover, and that the children were from someone else. We argued; I don't remember the rest; I lost control. I don't remember how I or my wife were wounded. I learned from the police that my wife had died. I don't remember calling my brother,' he had stated.
