A family living in Northamptonshire, England, experienced a terrifying incident when their electric luxury car, valued at £50,000, exploded while charging in front of their home. The frightening moments were captured by the home's security cameras, second by second. The luxury EQA model vehicle belonging to Scott and Georgina Bayliss caught fire and exploded right in front of their doorstep. The fire quickly spread to the garage and caused smoke damage in the front bedroom of the house. Security camera footage shows smoke rising from the vehicle before it succumbed to flames in a violent explosion. 47-year-old Scott Bayliss said, "We heard a sudden explosion while watching television. My son thought it was fireworks, but it sounded like a bomb. The fire engulfed the entire car and the front of the house at an incredible speed." Experts believe that the 2022 model vehicle experienced a 'thermal runaway' in its battery, meaning it overheated uncontrollably and could not cool down. The vehicle, which had been stationary for 10 hours, exploded at 21:15 on the evening of September 30. 49-year-old Georgina Bayliss stated, "When we saw the flames, we grabbed the puppies and escaped through the back door. We are lucky to have gotten out safely." A spokesperson for the car company announced that they are investigating the incident and have provided the family with a temporary vehicle. Scott commented, "I don't want to drive a Mercedes again. Electric cars can be very dangerous when they catch fire."
