Soydan came to Istanbul for university and while studying at the Academy of Economic Sciences, he also graduated from the Turkish Music Department of Istanbul Municipality Conservatory. At the same time, during his university education, he worked as a civil servant at Tekel. After completing his military service as a reserve officer, he entered the cinema by winning the competition opened by the magazine Perde together with Tanju Korel in 1966.
