In the Gelik town of the Kilimli district in Zonguldak, workers at a mine operated by a private company set up their tables made of wooden poles and planks as the time for sahur approached. They had their first sahurs in the mine, illuminated by the light of their helmets. The workers, who were 200 meters underground and away from their families, prayed as the call to prayer came, intending to fast. They then continued their shifts in the mine.
"WE ARE IN THE CAPITAL OF LABOR"
Mining engineer Samet Akduman stated that he has been working as an engineer in the mine for 6 years. Describing their struggle against nature underground, Akduman said, "We extract coal to the surface. We are in the capital of labor. As a country, we always need energy. We will always need it. We work with all our might to contribute this energy to our country, constantly fighting with our friends." he said.
"WE HAD OUR FIRST SAHUR TOGETHER"
Akduman noted that they are like a family in the mine, saying, "We are like a family with our team, and we have to be. You could say we have two families. We are all in the same struggle together. We had our first sahur here together. May Allah grant us to see many more sahurs and work without accidents, insha'Allah." he stated.
"PEOPLE STRUGGLE AT FIRST"
Mustafa Dedeoğlu, who has been a miner for two years, conveyed that working in the mine is difficult, saying, "People struggle at first, but we manage somehow. It's not a big deal once you get used to it, but it's hard if you're not used to it. It's something that can't be expressed in words; it has to be experienced. We had our sahur with friends. We will return to our work. I wish a blessed Ramadan to the entire Islamic world." he expressed.
"FOR US, THE MOST VALUABLE ORE IS TO GET OUT AS MANY PEOPLE AS ENTERED"
Mine worker Can Köseli stated that they are always in unity, solidarity, and cooperation with their colleagues, saying, "For us, the most valuable ore is our friends, and as many people as entered here should come out. Coal production is secondary. After ensuring our safety, the rest will come." he evaluated.
