The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan, announced that the minimum wage for 2025 has been set at 22,104 TL with a 30% increase. While the 30% increase in the minimum wage has caught the public off guard, a noteworthy evaluation on the matter also came from Mustafa Destici, the General Chairman of the Great Unity Party, one of the partners of the People's Alliance. "IT FELL SHORT OF EXPECTATIONS"Destici stated that the 30% increase fell short of expectations, saying, "In a period where the annual inflation at the end of November is realized at 47%, all employees' and retirees' salaries will increase by approximately this rate, and again, rents have been increased by 60%, and all taxes, fees, and charges have been raised by 43.93%, increasing the minimum wage by 30% is, at the very least, 'unfair', 'inequitable', and 'insufficient'. It has also fallen short of meeting the expectations of our brothers and sisters who are condemned to the minimum wage." "THIS DECISION SHOULD BE CORRECTED"Emphasizing that it is difficult for minimum wage earners living in rented accommodation to sustain their lives, Destici stated, "This decision should be corrected, and the minimum wage should be determined with a 50% increase, taking into account the inflation that will occur in 2024, and the net minimum wage should be raised above 25,000 TL." PENSIONSMustafa Destici drew attention to the fact that retirees are facing the same problems, stating, "Especially the pension amounts determined based on the root salary concept do not match the realities of life in the face of today's living conditions and inflation. They do not provide a solution for our retirees and do not meet their expectations at all."
