Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made an important statement following the emergence of cyberbullying on some social networks, especially Discord and Telegram. Minister Tunç, who provided information that judicial investigations have been initiated regarding content that constitutes a crime on these networks, also announced that sanctions such as bandwidth throttling and access restrictions would be applied to social network providers that do not comply with judicial decisions.
In his statement, Minister Tunç included the following remarks:
"JUDICIAL INVESTIGATIONS HAVE BEEN INITIATED"
Judicial investigations have been initiated by Public Prosecutor's Offices regarding content that constitutes a crime on some social network providers and internet pages. Sanctions such as fines, advertising bans, bandwidth throttling, and access restrictions will be firmly applied in accordance with Law No. 5651 on 'Regulation of Publications on the Internet and Combating Crimes Committed by Means of Such Publications' against social network providers and internet pages that do not remove this content and do not comply with judicial decisions.
"WE WILL NEVER TOLERATE"
The Republic of Turkey is a Rule of Law State. Protecting society from crime is the duty of the Rule of Law. Social network providers and internet pages operating in our country, which have millions of users, must also comply with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Turkey. No one has privileges. We will never allow attempts to poison our youth and children, who are the guarantee of our future, and to undermine the foundation of our social structure. We will not compromise on our determination to combat crime and criminals.
