The Ministry of National Defense announced that Infantry Lieutenant Ömer Fatih Ayar was martyred in contact with members of the separatist terrorist organization in the Gara region in northern Iraq.

In a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, it was stated that "In the Gara region in northern Iraq, on September 9, 2024, our heroic comrade P.Lt. Ömer Fatih Ayar was seriously injured in contact with members of the separatist terrorist organization, immediately transferred to the hospital, and despite all interventions, he could not be saved and became a martyr. We express our deepest sorrow and condolences to our dear martyr who lost his life in this incident that deeply saddens us, and we extend our condolences and patience to his grieving family, the Turkish Armed Forces, and our noble nation."
