The Unfair Price Assessment Board of the Ministry of Trade imposed a total fine of 126.7 million lira on businesses that raised prices excessively as of 2025. Inspections were carried out in many sectors, particularly in fire safety equipment and private schools.
The Ministry of Trade's Unfair Price Assessment Board decided to impose a total fine of 126.7 million lira on businesses that engaged in exorbitant price increases during its first meeting of 2025. Among these businesses were private schools.
MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION DETECTED
In a statement made by the ministry, it was expressed that the exorbitant price increases related to the goods and services provided by private educational institutions were also included in the scope of the Unfair Price Assessment Board's authority, following the studies conducted by the Ministry of National Education. The statement noted the following regarding the issue: In this context, comprehensive inspection activities have been carried out by our ministry inspectors within the framework of the Law on the Regulation of Retail Trade and relevant legislative provisions to determine whether exorbitant price increases have been applied in the basic services of private schools, such as tutoring, meals, books-stationery, and clothing.
THE HIGHEST PRICE DETAIL CAUGHT ATTENTION
"As a result of the examinations, private educational institutions that applied the highest price increases, especially in tutoring, meals, books-stationery, and clothing fees, as well as schools with a widespread educational network across the country, have been subjected to detailed evaluation. It has been decided to impose an administrative fine of 66 million 207 thousand 800 lira on the relevant private school operating firms that have caused unfair profits and victimized our citizens. During this process, all necessary administrative measures have been taken to establish a fair and transparent pricing policy in educational services, to address the grievances of our parents, and to combat any unfair practices and opportunistic approaches that may be encountered in our education system."
