The MIT and the General Directorate of Security conducted a joint operation against Ibrahim Burtakuçin, who was identified as preparing actions on behalf of ISIS in Turkey at the beginning of the year. Digital materials were seized at the suspect's home in Malatya.

The National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and the General Directorate of Security (EGM) carried out a joint operation against İbrahim Burtakuçin, who was identified as conducting activities on behalf of ISIS and preparing for actions.

DETECTION OF "ACTION PREPARATION" BEFORE NEW YEAR

As part of the intelligence work carried out by MIT, it was determined that Burtakuçin was conducting activities on behalf of ISIS in Turkey, seeking to join the organization by going to conflict zones when the opportunity arose, and preparing for actions/attacks on behalf of ISIS in Turkey during the New Year.

CONTACT NETWORK AND LOCATION IDENTIFIED

It was determined that the suspect was in contact with many ISIS sympathizers both domestically and abroad, and it was recorded that MIT's efforts resulted in identifying his current location.

ARRESTED IN MALATYA

It was reported that Burtakuçin was arrested in Malatya as a result of the joint efforts of MIT and EGM. Digital materials belonging to the suspect and prohibited publications found in his home were seized during the operation.

ISIS CONTENTS IDENTIFIED IN DIGITAL MATERIALS

In the examinations, the seized materials included;

  • Software belonging to ISIS,
  • Visuals related to ISIS's so-called flag and banner,
  • Audio files used in the organization's motivation-based suicide bomber/attack actions and supporting recruitment to the organization,
  • Visuals and videos belonging to ISIS elements and their so-called leaders,
  • Organizational discussions believed to have been conducted with ISIS members were identified.

PLANNING OF ACTIONS DISRUPTED

As a result of the efforts carried out by MIT and the General Directorate of Security, it was stated that ISIS's action planning against Turkey was thwarted, the organization's recruitment efforts were uncovered, and plans related to action preparations were seized.
