A study published by Visual Capitalist ranked the most expensive weddings in history by their present-day value. Topping the list was the Moscow wedding of Russian oil billionaire Mikhail Gutseriev's son, Said Gutseriev, and Khadija Uzhakhova.
COST REACHED 1.4 BILLION DOLLARS
At the 2016 event, Jennifer Lopez, Sting, and Enrique Iglesias performed. The bride opted for a custom-designed Elie Saab haute couture wedding dress, while transportation was provided by hundreds of Bentleys. The organization, notable for its massive flower decorations and a wedding cake approximately three meters high, was estimated to cost 1.4 billion dollars in today's value.
AMBANI FAMILY APPEARS TWICE ON THE LIST
Second on the list was India's wealthiest family, the Ambanis. The multi-day wedding organization of Reliance Industries boss Mukesh Ambani's son, Anant Ambani, and Radhika Merchant was estimated to cost between 641 million and 1.1 billion dollars.
The Ambani family also stood out in recent years with their lavish weddings. Numerous world-famous names, including Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Andrea Bocelli, performed at the celebrations.
ROYAL WEDDINGS ALSO ON THE LIST
Weddings of the British Royal Family also ranked high on the list. The 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana placed third with a cost of approximately 176 million dollars adjusted for inflation. The weddings of Prince Harry-Meghan Markle and Prince William-Kate Middleton were also among the most expensive organizations in history.
