The total market for automobiles and light commercial vehicles in Turkey decreased by 13.9% in January 2025 compared to the same month last year, reaching 68,654 units. Additionally, the best-selling vehicles based on body type, engine type, engine capacity, and emission levels have also been identified.

Car sales decreased by 12.6% in January 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching 55,944 units, while the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 18.8% to 12,710 units.

According to the January data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), the total market for cars and light commercial vehicles in Turkey decreased by 13.9% in January 2025 compared to the same month of the previous year, totaling 68,654 units. Car sales decreased by 12.6% in January 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching 55,944 units, while the light commercial vehicle market decreased by 18.8% to 12,710 units.

THE MOST PREFERRED VEHICLES WITH THE LOWEST TAXES

According to ten-year averages, the car and light commercial vehicle market increased by 75.2% compared to the ten-year average sales in January. The car market showed an increase of 87.2% compared to the ten-year average sales in January. The light commercial vehicle market increased by 36.7% compared to the ten-year average sales in January. In terms of segments, vehicles in segments A, B, and C, which have lower tax rates, constituted 82.3% of the market. C segment cars accounted for 31,455 units with a 56.2% share, while B segment cars accounted for 14,419 units with a 25.8% share.

SUV MODELS ARE MARKET LEADERS

When evaluating the car market by body types, the most preferred body type was SUV cars (57.4% share, 32,136 units). SUVs were followed by Sedans with a 25.6% share and 14,296 units sold, and H/B cars with a 16.2% share and 9,078 units sold. In terms of engine types, gasoline car sales accounted for 27,130 units with a 48.5% share, hybrid car sales accounted for 16,642 units with a 29.7% share, electric car sales accounted for 6,225 units with an 11.1% share, and diesel car sales accounted for 5,767 units with a 10.3% share. Autogas car sales accounted for 180 units with a 0.3% share. In the electric car market, based on electric motor power; electric car sales below 160 kW increased by 63.8%, accounting for a 9.8% share, while electric car sales above 160 kW increased by 18.5%, accounting for a 1.3% share.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CARS ARE PREFERED MORE

In the car market by engine capacity; car sales below 1600cc decreased by 33.8%, accounting for a 58.3% share, car sales in the 1600-2000cc range decreased by 30.3%, accounting for a 0.5% share, and car sales above 2000cc increased by 41.9%, accounting for a 0.3% share. In the car market by emission levels; cars with emissions between 120-140 gr/km accounted for 18,736 units with a 33.5% share, while cars with emissions between 100-120 gr/km accounted for 12,597 units with a 22.5% share. Automatic transmission cars accounted for 52,908 units with a 94.6% share, while manual transmission cars accounted for 3,036 units with a 5.4% share. In the light commercial vehicle market by body type; the van body type was the most preferred with a 76.1% share and 9,671 units, while the pickup body type ranked second with a 13% share and 1,657 units.
