Five years have passed since the incident, and Mehmet Ali Yılmaz, who beat his child to death, received a life sentence. 34-year-old grieving mother Gülistan Özger, who lost her son, stated that the monster who killed her child was trying to gain sympathy in the first trial by playing the victim, saying, "Mertcan Yılmaz was 6 and a half years old, he was just starting the first term of the first grade. He hadn't even received his first report card. I don't want to call him a father; he was there, and he probably yelled at him a bit for not studying, and when he cried, he hit him on the head with an iron rod. At that moment, he had already fallen to the ground; they did artificial respiration a few times, then called the ambulance, and they went directly to the hospital. When we arrived, they had already understood that he was dead. They don't say it, but I knew something bad had happened to him; he was all bruised. He stayed in intensive care for 3 days, and then we couldn't save him on January 5. In the first trial, he was literally crying, begging, and trying to deceive the judge and prosecutors. He received a life sentence twice and a 10-year solitary confinement sentence. In the second trial, they reduced his sentence.
