In the Çivril district of Denizli, it has been revealed that Akın Adlığ, who was found dead in 2006, was shot and killed with a shotgun by Gökhan T. and Mehmet K., with whom he had been drinking alcohol. The defendants confessed that they killed Akın Adlığ, who had an intellectual disability, with a shotgun during a dispute that arose because they wanted to take the money he had collected from the congregation after leaving the mosque. A case has been filed against the defendants, seeking aggravated life imprisonment and up to 15 years in prison.
Akın Adlığ, who had an intellectual disability, was found dead with a gunshot wound on June 10, 2006, in the Kocaköprü area of Süngüllü village in the Çivril district of Denizli. Following an investigation into Adlığ's death, a case was opened in 2008 against Gökhan T., one of the villagers who was 17 years old at the time of the incident. Gökhan T. was acquitted in 2012 based on witness statements and attendance records indicating that he may have used the glass found at the crime scene at another time and that he was at his workplace in Denizli at the time of the crime, as determined by the Denizli 2nd High Criminal Court.
SPECIAL TEAM ESTABLISHED
The case was reopened in 2024 by Public Prosecutor Furkan Karadayı. A special team was established within the Denizli Provincial Gendarmerie Command and the Çivril District Gendarmerie Command, which took the statement of Mehmet K., who was named as a witness in the gendarmerie intelligence report and was 15 years old at the time. Mehmet K. claimed that Gökhan T. and Akın Adlığ had called him to drink alcohol together, and during a dispute, Gökhan T. shot Adlığ with a shotgun. The special team deepened the investigation by interviewing individuals in the village who had information about the incident. The investigation revealed that Gökhan T. had used false witness statements and a fake workplace attendance document prepared by his uncle to present himself as being in Denizli at the time of the incident during the initial trial.
"WE WANTED TO TAKE HIS MONEY"
In light of the evidence obtained, Gökhan T. was taken into custody again. In his statement, Gökhan T. initially denied the accusations but later confessed to the murder after the evidence was presented. He stated that due to his intellectual disability, everyone in the village gave money to Akın Adlığ, and while they were drinking alcohol together, Mehmet K. asked him to give them the money he collected from the congregation after Friday prayers. When he refused, a dispute broke out, and Mehmet K. asked him to scare Adlığ by giving him the shotgun. He confessed that while he was pointing the gun at Adlığ, it accidentally fired, resulting in the death.
REQUEST FOR AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT
An indictment was prepared against Gökhan T. and Mehmet K. The indictment stated that the defendants acted in concert with the intent to rob the money in the victim's pocket and committed the crimes of 'robbery against a person who is unable to defend themselves physically or mentally by multiple individuals together with a weapon' and 'intentional murder of a person who is unable to defend themselves physically or mentally.' The court accepted the indictment and requested aggravated life imprisonment and up to 15 years in prison for the defendants.
