After the AK Party completed its provincial and district congresses, attention turned to a cabinet reshuffle. It is rumored that President Erdoğan, who is expected to make significant changes to the current cabinet for the new term, may also assign a role to Istanbul Governor Davut Gül.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that they have concluded the process following the 8th Ordinary Provincial Congress held in Istanbul last weekend. Emphasizing that they will prepare for the Grand Congress on February 23, Erdoğan stated, "Our congresses have been held in a manner befitting the AK Party, and our movement has emerged from this challenging marathon stronger, thank God."
A SURPRISING NAME HAS COME TO THE AGENDA FOR THE CABINET
It is expected that almost all of the deputy chairpersons and group vice presidents will change at the Grand Congress on February 23, which has drawn attention. Many names are also being mentioned regarding the cabinet. One of them is Istanbul Governor Davut Gül... It is being discussed that Gül, who has previously served in critical provinces, may take a place in the cabinet in the new term. Davut Gül, who was appointed as the governor of Istanbul on March 2023, has been serving in this position since June 5, 2023.
POSSIBLE CHANGES IN MINISTERS
So, who will leave and who will stay in the cabinet revision expected to be completed by the month of Ramadan? According to what is being discussed in the corridors, the ministers expected to change are as follows;
- Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı
- Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş
- Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat
- Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan
MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY MAY SPLIT
Additionally, there are claims that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry may be split into two, potentially creating two new ministries: the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Forestry.
BERAT ALBAYRAK MAY RETURN
One of the most notable names among the cabinet change claims is Berat Albayrak. Albayrak, who served as the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources from 2015 to 2018 and as the Minister of Treasury and Finance from 2018 to 2020, is being discussed for an important ministerial position in the new Cabinet. Particularly, Albayrak's name has drawn attention for the Cabinet due to his reported relationships with Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, following the US elections. If the claims are correct, Albayrak may take on a critical role in the economy or energy sector.
