After the rapid rise in gold prices last week, the direction reversed. Gram gold, which had risen above 7,200 liras, fell to 6,754 liras, dropping by more than 300 liras. While ounce gold fell below 4,450 dollars, Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's interest rate messages and strengthening expectations of a rate hike in the U.S. put pressure on prices.
A notable pullback occurred in gram gold following last week's rally. Gram gold, which had been on an upward trend for some time, retreated from above 7,200 lira to levels of 6,754. Thus, a significant shift in direction was observed in gold prices within a short period.
SURPASSED 7,200 LIRA
Gold prices had accelerated again in recent weeks after gaining upward momentum starting May 14. Gram gold, which had previously fallen to levels of 6,000 lira, exceeded the 7,200 lira level with the onset of the rally. However, the rise that continued in the first trading days of last week did not prove lasting. In the new week, while levels of 6,754 lira were seen in gram gold, the decline exceeded 300 lira when considering the levels above 7,200 lira from last week.
OUNCE GOLD BELOW 4,450 DOLLARS
The pullback in gram gold was accompanied by a decline on the ounce front. Ounce gold traded around 4,433 dollars, hovering near the lows of the past two weeks. Expectations regarding the U.S. Federal Reserve's (Fed) interest rate policy stood out in the decline in gold. After Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's statements that clearer evidence is needed that inflation is turning toward the 2 percent target, expectations of a rate hike in the U.S. strengthened.
