The nephews of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, who was killed in a 2020 assassination organized by the United States, have been arrested. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the U.S. residency permits of Soleimani's niece Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter have been revoked.
The commander of the Quds Force, which has become a symbol of the tension between the US and Iran, Qassem Soleimani, has once again made headlines worldwide with a legal operation reaching his family years later. The process, which began with the assassination organized by the US in 2020, gained a new dimension with the arrest of Soleimani's nephews in the US.
THE ASSASSINATION ORDER CAME FROM TRUMP
The fuse of the process was lit on January 3, 2020, near Baghdad Airport. In an airstrike carried out under the direct orders of then-US President Donald Trump, Qassem Soleimani, a key figure of the Revolutionary Guards, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a senior official of the Popular Mobilization Forces, were killed. This operation, which resulted in the deaths of a total of 10 people, shook the balances in the Middle East to its core.
The Tehran administration, which did not delay in responding to the assassination, targeted US bases in Iraq with ballistic missiles on January 8. The balance sheet of this attack, which was reported to have no casualties, later became clear; more than 100 US soldiers were treated for traumatic brain injuries.
RESIDENCY PERMITS CANCELLED
This long-standing tension recently turned into a deportation operation targeting Soleimani's relatives. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the legal residency permits (Green Cards) of Soleimani's niece Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter have been canceled in the US. In the information provided by the ministry, it was confirmed that Afshar and her daughter are currently under the supervision of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) units.
This move showed that Washington is reassessing the presence of not only Iranian military figures but also individuals directly connected to these figures on US soil within the framework of "national security."
