Phone scammers and blackmail gangs have recently been luring citizens into traps through video calls. The person answering the call is confronted with sexually explicit images of children on the screen. The scammers take a screenshot of the victim's face along with the image and use it for blackmail. Experts warn that video calls from unknown numbers should never be answered.
The latest method employed by scammers is sexual exploitation blackmail conducted through video calls. Victims are typically lured in by video calls from numbers originating abroad.
THEY RECORD YOUR SCREEN WITH YOUR IMAGE
The person answering the call is confronted with a sexually explicit image of children on the screen. Scammers capture the victim's face with a screenshot during this image display.
THEY BLACKMAIL AND DEMAND MONEY
The suspects use the obtained images to make it appear as if the victim has engaged in a long-term conversation and threaten to send it to the victim's family or close circle. This method exerts pressure on victims to demand money.
CRITICAL WARNING FROM EXPERTS
According to a report by Star; IT Expert Osman Demircan emphasized that video calls from unknown or foreign numbers should never be answered. Demircan noted that such calls are made from many different countries, primarily Nigeria.
"THE VICTIM MUST IMMEDIATELY REPORT TO THE POLICE"
Emphasizing the need for quick action in the event of a potential victimization, Demircan made the following call:
"The victim should immediately report to the police with the screenshots they have. Initiating the legal process and taking the first step will be the most important factor in demonstrating your victimization and legitimacy."
