In the first vote, 62 votes in favor and 36 votes against were cast for Thomas Barrack's nomination. The candidacy, supported by a simple majority in the first vote, was then accepted in the second and official confirmation vote with 60 votes in favor and 36 votes against.

Barrack's grandparents were a Lebanese Christian family that immigrated to the United States from Zahle, Lebanon, in 1900. Barrack grew up in Culver City, California, where his father was a grocer and his mother was a secretary.
Barrack chaired the committee overseeing the 2017 Trump inauguration ceremony.
