The nurse, whose footage of assaulting a 5-day-old baby in Kahramanmaraş surfaced, appeared before the judge. Begging the judge in court, the woman said, "I am very regretful, and this regret will last a lifetime. Please, honorable judge, I beg of you and your court, I request to be tried without detention."
A nurse standing trial for allegedly abusing a 5-day-old baby in Kahramanmaraş said, "I deeply regret it, this regret will last a lifetime. I request to be tried without detention."
An investigation was launched following allegations of abuse against a 5-day-old baby under treatment at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Health Application and Research Hospital on May 26, 2021. After the incident was brought to court, footage emerged showing nurse H.D.B. striking the 5-day-old Deniz Esin Bozoklar. Following the release of the footage, nurse H.D.B. was arrested. The trial continued at Kahramanmaraş 10th Criminal Court of First Instance. In the courtroom, where the defendant and her lawyers were present, the detained nurse H.D.B. was connected to the hearing via the SEGBIS system.
"I DID NOT INTEND TO HARM DELIBERATELY"
The presiding judge gave the floor to the former nurse. Nurse H.D.B. stated, "I did not intend to cause any harm to the patient; my aim was to provide treatment. I deeply regret this sudden incident, and this regret will last a lifetime. I request to be tried without detention. I apologize deeply, but I have no connection to her illness. I have been separated from my own child for about 4.5 months. I beg you. Impose multiple judicial controls or house arrest. I request my release. Please, honorable judge, I beg the court, I request to be tried without detention."
DECISION MADE TO CONTINUE DETENTION
Defense lawyer Mustafa Çaprak said, "We request the release of the detained defendant considering her detention status." The plaintiff's lawyer Sait Bolat reiterated his previous statements and requested that the detention continue.
The court decided to continue the detention of the defendant nurse H.D.B.
The hearing was adjourned to July 3 pending a report from the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK).
