In Egypt, social media influencers Malevola Alves and Bruna Mercatelli were detained on allegations that they performed sexually explicit acts inside a vehicle and engaged in indecent behavior in the street. After the footage spread on social media, an investigation was launched against them, and it was reported that the two influencers face up to 10 years in prison.

Brazilian influencer Malevola Alves and her friend Bruna Mercatelli, who were detained in Egypt over controversial images they shared on social media, face up to 10 years in prison. The two women, detained in Alexandria, are accused of violating public morality and harassing those around them because of videos they shot inside a vehicle and in the streets.

THE VIDEOS THEY SHOT FOR SOCIAL MEDIA GOT THEM INTO TROUBLE

According to The Sun, the footage shot by 22-year-old Malevola Alves and her friend Bruna Mercatelli included movements considered obscene inside the vehicle and sexually explicit behavior. In the videos, one of the women was seen dancing in the vehicle, while the other engaged in inappropriate acts with the driver.

In other images, it was alleged that the pair got close to a young man on the street, called out to passersby, and one lifted the other's skirt. Egypt's Ministry of Interior reported that the behavior in the footage was assessed as obscene exposure in public spaces and harassment of those around them.

IT WAS ALLEGED THEY ADMITTED “THEY SHARED THEM TO GET MORE VIEWS”

Egypt's Ministry of Interior announced that the two women questioned admitted that they had recorded the images in question themselves and published them on their social media accounts to gain more views. It was stated that the file was sent to the prosecutor's office for investigation.

SHE ASKED FOR HELP FROM THE POLICE STATION

Before being detained, Malevola Alves posted on social media, stating that she and her friend were at a police station and asking for help. Alves said their passports had been seized and their vehicle was stopped during the tour.

The influencer also alleged that police officers asked them questions about their gender identities. It was reported that the lawyers of Alves and her friend contacted Brazil's Embassy in Cairo, and Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it was ready to provide consular support if requested.

THEIR DETENTION MAY CONTINUE

The report noted that the two women paid bail after detention and, according to reports in the local Brazilian press, were expected to be released shortly. The investigation is ongoing.

In Egypt, behavior and online content considered contrary to public morality and society's family values can result in severe penalties. However, the final decision regarding the two women is not yet known
