After the overthrow of the 61-year-old Ba'ath regime in Syria, opposition members set fire to the tomb of Hafiz al-Assad, the father of Bashar al-Assad, located in Latakia. Local residents expressed their anger towards Assad with the words, "He displaced us," while the opposition celebrated in front of the tomb.

On November 27, Wednesday, the opposition in Syria launched an operation that overthrew the 61-year-old Baath regime in just 12 days without engaging in any conflict.

OPPOSITION TARGETS THE TOMB

With the fall of the regime, Bashar al-Assad fled Syria and settled in Russia, while the opposition targeted the tomb of his father, Hafez al-Assad, located in Latakia.

“HE DISPLACED US”

As images emerged of the opposition celebrating while setting fire to the tomb in the village, local residents expressed their reaction to the Assad regime with the words, “The villagers burned and destroyed Hafez al-Assad's tomb. Because he left them hungry, because they hated him. He displaced us, he destroyed us.”
