A passenger train in the Hojai district of Assam, India, collided with a herd of elephants that had entered the tracks. Five carriages of the train derailed. According to a statement from the local police, 7 elephants were killed, and 1 elephant was injured.
THE DRIVER APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKES BUT STILL COLLIDED
The railway company stated that the accident occurred at a point where there was no designated crossing for elephants. It was noted that the driver saw the herd of about 100 elephants and activated the emergency brakes, but still collided with some of them, while the elephants were also running towards the train.
