In Sarıyer, the murder of Yunis Doğan (40), who was found bound with a hogtie after a fire broke out at a workplace in 2006, and Hacer Eginay (23), who was found wrapped in packing tape after being stabbed, has been solved 19 years later. Following the re-examination of fingerprints found on the packing tape at the crime scene with advancing technology, four suspects were detained. It was learned that one of the suspects stated in his police testimony, "Bro, I forgot, you didn't forget." While three of the detained suspects were arrested and sent to prison, one person was released by the prosecutor's office.

DOUBLE MURDER SOLVED 19 YEARS LATER

After a fire broke out at a workplace in Maslak Atatürk Auto Industry Site on December 17, 2006, two bodies were found inside. Investigations revealed that Yunis Doğan, who worked as a sign maker, was strangled and burned after being tied up in a hogtie. The other body found on the lower floor was identified as Hacer Eginay, who was determined to have been killed with 57 stab wounds and then wrapped in packing tape and set on fire.

THE CASE REMAINED UNSOLVED AT THAT TIME

In the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Police Department at that time, no clues related to the suspects were found. Due to the bodies being tied with a hogtie, the incident was assessed to have been carried out by illegal organizations. However, the case remained unsolved until that date.

CASE REOPENED BY THE DIRECTOR OF POLICE

Following the instruction of Istanbul Police Chief Selami Yıldız to resolve cases that had remained unsolved in the past, a special team was established within the Homicide Bureau to conduct a meticulous investigation into the incident.

IDENTIFIED THROUGH FINGERPRINT ON TAPE

The fingerprint found on the packing tape that was wrapped around the feet of Yunis Doğan's burned body was re-examined thanks to advancing technology. The studies revealed that the fingerprint belonged to Rüstem Ş. (40). Following this development, the police began to track Rüstem Ş. It was determined that Rüstem Ş., who was found to have been doing his military service in İzmir at that time, had received his discharge a few days before the incident, and his mobile phone number was also identified. As a result of examining the HTS records of this number, the police reached the names of Cavit G. (41) and Mohsen F. (57), who were involved in the incident.

FEUD DUE TO MONEY COLLECTED FOR HEALTH

As a result of the work carried out by the Homicide Bureau teams, it was learned that Mohsen F. had worked alongside Yunis Doğan for a while and that a feud had developed between them because the aid money collected by Yunis Doğan due to his illness was not given to him.

DETAINED SUSPECT SAID "BRO, I FORGOT, YOU DIDN'T FORGET"

In an operation conducted by the Homicide Bureau teams of the Public Order Branch, four suspects, including Rüstem Ş., Cavit G., and Mohsen F., were detained. It was learned that Rüstem Ş. told the police who apprehended him, "Bro, I forgot, how did you not forget?"

DETAILS ABOUT THE MURDER EMERGED

In his police testimony, Rüstem Ş. stated that he did not know the deceased individuals, saying, "Cavit is my former partner and friend. He introduced me to a person named Mohsen, whom he knew. One day while I was looking for a job, Mohsen asked me to go to a friend of his in Maslak who was looking for workers. I went to the given address. I spoke with Yunis Doğan, who claimed to have been the boss there. I told him I was looking for a job. When I mentioned that I was sent by Mohsen, his attitude suddenly changed. I learned there that they had a falling out previously."

"MOHSEN KILLED THE WOMAN"

Rüstem Ş. recounted that while he was still at the workplace, Cavit and Mohsen also came to the job site. "While we were all talking, the atmosphere suddenly became tense. When the woman present at the workplace got into a verbal altercation with Mohsen, he suddenly drew his weapon. He threatened the woman and took her downstairs. I stayed upstairs at first. However, when I went downstairs after a while, I saw the woman screaming in pain and being stabbed by Mohsen. Mohsen was shouting at the woman, 'These are your good days.' I ran away in fear," he said.

"THEY THREATENED ME AND SILENCED ME"

It was learned that suspect Rüstem Ş. confessed in his statement that he helped in wrapping the body. It was determined that the suspects went to a café after the incident, and Rüstem Ş. stated, "They asked me to be quiet and not to talk to anyone about this matter. The next day, I learned from the newspapers that a fire had broken out at a workplace and two bodies had been found. When I asked them about this issue, they said that was the place we went."

It was learned that Rüstem Ş., one of the suspects whose procedures were completed at the Public Order Branch in Gayrettepe, had previously been imprisoned for drug possession and had also been processed for persistently stalking four different women. Three of the suspects were arrested and sent to prison after being referred to the courthouse, while one suspect was released after the prosecutor's interrogation.
