A police officer who beat an intoxicated citizen unconscious at a gas station in Sancaktepe has been suspended from duty by the decision of the Istanbul Governorship. Additionally, an inspector has been requested to be assigned to investigate the incident, which has drawn public outrage.
On the previous day at around 03:00 in Sancaktepe Sarıgazi, a report was made to the police about a drunken person causing disturbance by swearing at a gas station.
POLICE OFFICER BEATEN UNTIL UNCONSCIOUS
Upon the report, the police intervened harshly with the disruptive citizen. In the footage, it was seen that the drunken individual was kicked to the ground and remained motionless for a while, yet the police officer continued to hit him. Following the emergence of the footage, the Istanbul Governorship made a statement.
POLICE SUSPENDED FROM DUTY
In the statement, it was noted that the security teams went to the scene to control the individual upon the report, but during the intervention, unwanted footage that also spread on social media was recorded. "An investigation has been initiated regarding the appropriateness of the intervention following the incident, and one personnel has been suspended from duty. Additionally, a request for a police chief inspector regarding the matter has also been made," the statement said.
