Famous actor Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu was detained following an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding calls for a boycott. Üzümoğlu's support for the boycott on April 2 and his posts stating, "There is no artist who remains silent," drew attention.
In the investigation launched regarding the boycott calls made on social media, a detention order was issued for 16 people. The security forces detained 11 individuals, including actor Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu. While those detained were taken to the police for processing, search efforts are ongoing for five others.
SHARED POSTS CAUGHT ATTENTION
It was observed that Üzümoğlu, whose procedures are ongoing at the police station, signed a support statement for İmamoğlu and shared on his Instagram account, "Shoulder to Shoulder for Law, Justice, and Democracy." The famous actor also drew attention with his posts supporting the boycott on April 2, stating, "You will say that an artist cannot be silent, but there cannot be an artist who cannot speak out."
AYBÜKE PUSAT SHOWED SUPPORT
Üzümoğlu also reacted to Aybüke Pusat being removed from the TRT series Teşkilat due to her boycott posts. In his post, Üzümoğlu stated, "To the public: Boycott is a form of protest that can be evaluated within the scope of the freedom of thought and expression and the right to peaceful assembly as guaranteed by Articles 25, 26, and 34 of our Constitution. We are following the developments regarding my colleague Aybüke Pusat and we stand by her. Artistic labor finds meaning through freedom of expression. No actor can be dismissed from their job for expressing their thoughts."
SUPPORT FOR ÜZÜMOĞLU FROM THE ACTORS' UNION
The Actors' Union reacted to the detention of Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu. In a statement, it was said, "To the public; Our Actors' Union Board Member, our colleague, and friend Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu was detained early this morning. We are trying to learn information about the content of the investigation. We are in contact with his lawyers. Cem Yiğit Üzümoğlu is not alone."
