Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the economic situation of his country and revealed his salary. Recalling a memory from his years serving in the Ministry of Health during the presidency of former President Mohammad Khatami, Pezeshkian said, "At that time, 6,000 tomans was equivalent to 6,000 dollars. Due to the depreciation of the currency, today I receive a salary of 1,000 dollars as president."
The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, spoke at a meeting in Golestan Province, where the progress of the referral system in medical services was evaluated during his provincial visits.
"FAMILY PHYSICIAN IS THE BEST WAY"
Pezeshkian emphasized the need to change the management approach and focus on public health, stating, "The responsibility for community health lies on your shoulders. In this process, the ministry should remain in a supportive position. Academic staff, doctors, nurses, and midwives should come together to provide a viable solution that will ensure public satisfaction."
Stating that the main strategy of the referral system is the "family physician," Pezeshkian said, "The family physician is the best way to provide accountable, quality, fair, and verifiable services. However, if you have a better solution, we will provide the necessary resources for the province's use. You will also decide together with doctors, nurses, and specialists to satisfy the public."
"THE GOAL IS ONLY THE HEALTH AND WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE"
Pezeshkian stated, "The health of the people is the cornerstone of society. Every person whose pain is treated becomes satisfied. We are not speaking from a political perspective. The goal is only the health and welfare of the people. The scientific potential and capabilities of our health system are not found anywhere else. With your cooperation, we can quickly solve the region's problems."
"I RECEIVE A SALARY OF ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS AS PRESIDENT"
Recalling a memory from his time as deputy minister in the Ministry of Health during the presidency of Mohammad Khatami, Masoud Pezeshkian said, "One day we went to a village. When we arrived at the village, we saw two married doctors still working late at night. Because we were paying them good salaries. At that time, 6,000 tomans was equivalent to 6,000 dollars. Due to the devaluation of the currency, today I receive a salary of one thousand dollars as president. That is the problem. However, beyond all this, we need to prioritize preventive work and health centers. A serious and proper budget should be allocated for this area. In fact, solid and proper contracts can also be made with those institutions with the same budget."
PEZESHKIAN HAD ALSO ANNOUNCED HIS SALARY IN 2024
The President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, in a program he attended on September 16, 2024, responded to a journalist's question about how much his salary was and how much he spent on the presidential elections, saying, "I really had no money to spend for the election office. Those who could came and helped. Some even lent money and dollars. Later, I paid them all back."
Addressing the question about his salary, Pezeshkian said, "I don't even know how much salary I receive. But they say that 60-70 million tomans (approximately one thousand dollars) is deposited into my account every month. I honestly have no idea how much we are paid and how much we receive. I don't check the salary I receive either. I have no need that would justify using that money. The period of chasing money has passed for me. I am not after position, rank, or property. At this stage of my life, I do not care about any of these. My only goal is for the people to hold their heads high and be comfortable."
