The trial of 61 defendants, 17 of whom are detained, regarding the 'Ayhan Bora Kaplan' criminal organization continued at the Ankara 32nd High Criminal Court. The detained defendant Ayhan Bora Kaplan, who is alleged to be the leader of the organization, made a defense regarding the prosecutor's opinion.

During the hearing held at the Sincan Penal Institutions Campus, Feyzanur Kışlak, the lawyer of Uğur Pekşen, who is claimed to be Kaplan's bodyguard and driver, stated that his client is a warehouse officer and not Kaplan's bodyguard or driver, saying, "There is no evidence other than my client being caught in the same vehicle as Bora Kaplan. The reason for his presence there is to return Kaplan's car to the city because he was going abroad. It was Bora Kaplan who was driving the vehicle," he said.

BORA KAPLAN BEGAN HIS FINAL DEFENSE

After Feyzanur Kışlak, the leader of the criminal organization Bora Kaplan began his defense. Kaplan claimed that he was not given enough time to work on 80 folders and alleged that the accusations against him were prepared through a joint effort of the police and the prosecutor. Kaplan suggested that during the interrogation, the police wanted him to slander bureaucrats, state officials, and the close circle of former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu, stating, "I thought the setups ended with FETÖ. They are setting up separate organizations and separate setups. The prosecutor is again playing with his phone, not looking at me. I wish he had listened to us and not written the opinion like this," he expressed.

Addressing the presiding judge, Bora Kaplan said, "At first, I thought the police were deceiving you, and you believed them. But after so much has come to light, I cannot understand how you continue to act the same way. If you look at the complainants, they are drug addicts, fraudsters, and people with criminal records. What kind of organization are we that we have preyed on such people while there are educated businessmen?" he said.

"I AM A WRONGED MAN"

Stating that his only wish is to prove his innocence, Kaplan said, "I am not saying, 'I am a poor, miserable man,' but I am a wronged man, and God is always on the side of the wronged. Let me prove my innocence; I don't mind spending my life in prison. I am aware that I am struggling in vain; it feels like we are walking in the sea as if we are on land. We are not in a hurry; we are already lying down. You should have waited for the end of this police case and for the revelation of which organization they belong to. One day, what the investigation prosecutor is doing will surely come to light. But God's justice will eventually prevail. The only reason I am here is July 15. This is also a setup. FETÖ members did not commit this much lawlessness. They did ten times more," he stated.

BORA KAPLAN ARGUED WITH THE PROSECUTOR

In response to the prosecutor repeating the indictment, Kaplan said, "Either he doesn't know the law, or he is knowingly committing unlawful acts," to which the prosecutor reacted, saying, "Make your defense without exceeding your limits. I have given my opinion; tell your grievances to the court. I warn you, just so you know." Following this, Kaplan replied, "You are violating the law, and you expect me to turn a blind eye. If you know the law, you wouldn't write it like this. You don't know, that's why you are writing. File a complaint against me. If you are committing unlawful acts, then what I say won't bother you," he responded. After the presiding judge intervened, Kaplan continued his defense.

The hearing continued with Bora Kaplan's defense after the break. Kaplan stated that he would reveal the name of the secret witness U5 but decided against it after his lawyer objected, saying, 'If he is going to say it, let the President say it,' and added, "This person was born in 1996-1997. During the events he describes, he was 16-17 years old, and the places he mentioned did not exist at that time. At this age, he became friends with me. Put 10 people here and say, 'Find him, we will let you go,' and you won't find him. Because I do not know such a person. This secret witness is a curse on the country," he said.

Kaplan referred to the prosecutor's labeling of the allegations against the police involved in the investigation as 'speculation,' saying, "If it's speculation, why are they being prosecuted? Bring their digital records from the 13th Criminal Court, let's see if it's speculation or not. If it's speculation, punish us for slander. If we were an organization in 2016, then why didn't Murat Çelik, who was the Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Unit, take us in or conduct an investigation? Erkan Doğan had already given a statement back then. If it was credible, why didn't they take action? Do you know the reason? In 2016, no one knew or recognized me. When July 15 happened, and the opposition media made a fuss about me, they said, 'Oh, this is Bora Kaplan.' This is the result of the trouble caused by July 15," he said. The hearing will continue tomorrow with Bora Kaplan's defense.
