President Erdoğan faced questions from the press in the corridor after his speech at the AK Party Group Meeting. When a journalist asked, "Özgür Özel mentioned a by-election. How do you evaluate this?" Erdoğan left the question unanswered and continued walking with his aides. Following this development, Erdoğan's meeting with the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly, Numan Kurtulmuş, drew attention.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made a surprising statement by suggesting an "interim election." He stated that he would discuss this with the Speaker of the Parliament, Numan Kurtulmuş, and proposed that if a decision is made for general elections, local elections could also be held simultaneously.
While plans were being made for an interim election in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) with the resignation of 22 MPs from CHP, this development was questioned by President Erdoğan after his speech at the AK Party Group Meeting.
REPORTER ASKS ABOUT "INTERIM ELECTION"
After his speech at the meeting, Erdoğan faced questions from the press in the corridor, where a journalist asked, "Özgür Özel mentioned an interim election. How do you evaluate this?"
ERDOĞAN LEFT THE QUESTION UNANSWERED
President Erdoğan left the question about the "interim election" unanswered while continuing his walk in the corridor with his aides.
IMPORTANT SUMMIT IN THE PARLIAMENT
Following this development, President Erdoğan met with the Speaker of the Parliament, Numan Kurtulmuş. No statement has yet been made regarding the content of the meeting.
WHAT HAPPENED?
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced that he would visit the Speaker of the Parliament, Numan Kurtulmuş, regarding the agenda of an interim election in the coming days. Özel stated, "We will have a very ambitious move. We are in the days when the constitution mandates an interim election." In response to journalists' question, "What do you mean?" he replied, "We will announce it that day." Özel also indicated that all steps would be taken to bring the ballot box.
"WE WILL BRING THE BALLOT BOX IN SOME WAY"
In his statement, Özel said, "We will do everything to bring the general election ballot box. If it doesn't happen, I will request a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament in the coming days. We will somehow bring a ballot box in front of this nation. We will risk everything. Come on. If I lose to the AK Party in places where CHP has previously won, I will resign again. You are a coward if you do not bring the general election ballot box in May or June; you do not bring all the local election ballot boxes alongside it. (The agenda of the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament) is aimed at the interim election. We are in the days when the constitution mandates an interim election. The Speaker of the Parliament also has a stance to take regarding the interim election. We will do our part in this matter." he said.
STRIKING CLAIM IN ANKARA LOBBIES
Özel's statements led to various interpretations in the Ankara lobbies. According to Sözcü's news, this statement was evaluated as a "move to force an interim election by vacating 30 seats in the TBMM."
CRITICAL NUMBER FOR INTERIM ELECTION: 30 SEATS
Currently, there are 8 vacant seats in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). According to Article 78 of the Constitution, for an interim election to be held, this number must reach 30. It is stated that if 22 CHP MPs resign, the necessary number can be reached. If the Parliament accepts this situation, the election process is expected to be initiated within 3 months.
