According to the Turkey Health Survey, the rate of obese individuals in the country was determined to be 21.8 percent last year. It was found that 24.8 percent of women and 18.7 percent of men are obese.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the results of the "2025 Turkey Health Survey."

OBESITY RATE RISES TO 21.8 PERCENT

According to this, when body mass index calculated using height and weight values is examined, the rate of obese individuals aged 15 and over increased from 20.2 percent in 2022 to 21.8 percent in 2025. Looking at gender specifics, it was determined that 24.8 percent of women are obese and 32.2 percent are pre-obese.

Among men, these rates were recorded as 18.7 percent and 43.1 percent, respectively.

RATE OF THOSE NOT ENGAGING IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AT 86.6 PERCENT

The rate of men who do not engage in activity was 85.3 percent in 2022, and became 83.5 percent in 2025. Among women, this rate decreased from 92.7 percent to 89.7 percent. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that adults perform at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity per week.

Accordingly, the rate of those engaging in physical activity between 150 and 300 minutes per week in 2025 was 4.1 percent for men and 2.7 percent for women.

When evaluating difficulties in physical functioning, the rate of those experiencing difficulty climbing stairs ranked first, at 8.3 percent for women and 3.7 percent for men.

The rate of those experiencing difficulty learning or remembering was 5.4 percent for women and 2.8 percent for men, while the rate of those experiencing difficulty walking was determined as 5.6 percent for women and 2.8 percent for men.
