Gökhan Yaşar Ünen, who works as a motorcycle mechanic in Istanbul, takes his dog everywhere with him. The duo, who travel wearing a specially designed helmet and goggles for their Rottweiler dog, brings smiles to people's faces.

Ünen, who works as a motorcycle mechanic in Eyüpsultan, noticed that their dog named "Beti", which they adopted with his father in his childhood, wanted to ride his motorcycle when they were going somewhere. Ünen, who traveled together to different cities in Turkey until the age of 13, lost "Beti" due to cancer in 2022.

Motorcycle Mechanic in Istanbul Goes Everywhere with His Dog

HE RODE A MOTORCYCLE FOR THE FIRST TIME AT 3 MONTHS OLD

Ünen, who adopted a rottweiler puppy from a friend in the neighborhood, named him "Albay". Ünen stated that he rode the motorcycle a few times to get "Albay" used to it when he was 3 months old, and said that although the dog was a little scared at first, he got used to it later and they started going everywhere together. Ünen mentioned that he designed a special helmet and goggles for his dog to travel safely, and said that they ate and slept together.

HE IS BOTH A TRAVEL BUDDY AND AN APPRENTICE

Ünen explained that "Albay" helps him while he is repairing motorcycles at his workplace by wearing a light on his head and brings him the small plastic parts he needs. Ünen stated that people who see "Albay" outside do not react positively and sometimes receive negative comments. He said, "People are very surprised. When they first see my dog with a helmet and goggles, they get scared. A woman thought he was a child when she saw 'Albay' with a helmet and goggles from a distance. Many people are curious about how he got used to the motorcycle and other things. When we go somewhere, many people want to take a photo when 'Albay' gets on the motorcycle."

"HE HOLDS ON TIGHT TO THE MOTORCYCLE"

Ünen emphasized that his deceased dog "Beti" was also very loyal to him and said, "They say that a girl is more loyal to her father. She was very loyal to me. 'Albay', on the other hand, is more attached to my mother. They say that a boy is more attached to his mother. He loves my mother very much. 'Albay' plays with our cats at home and is very compatible with the home environment." Ünen stated that people tell him that they are afraid that 'Albay' will jump around while riding on the road, but he said that his dog holds on tightly to the motorcycle.

BOTH OF THEM HAVE BURN MARKS

Ünen explained that there was an explosion due to a fire that broke out in their home next to his motorcycle repair shop recently. He said that he entered the burning house to save his dog. Ünen said that he barely saved his dog, who ran into the house, and mentioned that both he and "Albay" had burns on their bodies as a result of the fire. Ünen also mentioned that his dog sometimes misbehaves, takes the keys of the motorcycles that come for repair secretly, and they have to search for the keys for hours.

"WE ARE LIKE FATHER AND SON, I GREW UP WITH DOGS SINCE MY CHILDHOOD"

Ünen emphasized that there is an emotional bond between him and his dog and said: "We are like father and son. My dog did not receive any training, I trained him myself. I grew up with dogs since I was five years old. We go everywhere together. If we feel like it, we get on the motorcycle and go somewhere. We couldn't go on vacation with 'Albay' because of the fire incident, but we are planning to go in the future. I can say that if nothing happened to me until now, it is thanks to the dogs."
