The RTÜK imposed a 3% administrative fine on Prime Video and ordered the removal of the competition program "The Power of Love" due to "derogatory and abusive" content towards women. The program will no longer be accessible on the platform.
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) imposed a 3% administrative fine on the competition program titled "The Power of Love," broadcast on Prime Video, on the grounds that it contains content that demeans and exploits women. The council also ruled for the program to be removed from the catalog.
GENDER STEREOTYPES AND PRESSURE ON WOMEN
In the meeting of the RTÜK Supreme Council, it was determined that the program presents gender roles in rigid and clichéd patterns, legitimizes the oppression of women, and normalizes their exclusion from decision-making processes. The review highlighted that the content forces women into specific behavioral patterns.
WOMEN OBJECTIFIED
In its assessment, the council stated that women are presented as commodities in terms of their physical, emotional, and psychological aspects in the program. It emphasized that women's emotional states are exploited for ratings and attention, and they are positioned as a "reward" or "tool" in the competition among men.
VIOLATION OF LAW NO. 6112
RTÜK concluded that the broadcast violated the provision in the first paragraph of Article 8 of Law No. 6112 on the Establishment and Broadcasting Services of Radio and Television, which states that "programs that promote pressures on women and exploit women cannot be included."
3% FINE
Due to the identified violation, a 3% administrative fine was imposed on Prime Video, and it was also decided to remove the program titled "The Power of Love" from the platform's broadcast catalog.
