In Ankara, while work continues on the wreckage of the private jet carrying Libyan Chief of General Staff General Muhammed Ali Al-Haddad and his entourage, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Uraloğlu shared the communications between the pilot and the control tower. Uraloğlu also stated that the examination of the aircraft's voice and data recorders would be conducted in a neutral country.

Last night, a Falcon 50 private jet that took off from Ankara Esenboğa Airport to Libya's capital Tripoli crashed. In the accident, 8 people, including Libya's Chief of General Staff General Muhammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, lost their lives. While the repercussions of the incident continue, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu published the conversations between the captain and the co-pilot and the Esenboğa Air Traffic Control Center before the aircraft carrying the Libyan delegation met with the accident.

Here are those conversations;

  • At local time 20:17, the aircraft with the call sign HMJ185 took off from Esenboğa Airport for Libya Mitiga (Tripoli) Airport in accordance with standard procedures. Following the takeoff, it was handed over to the "Approach Control Unit" at our Air Traffic Control Center, and subsequently to the "Ground Control Unit" in accordance with appropriate and normal procedures. In this context, the relevant flight was allowed to gradually ascend to the altitudes it requested;
  • At local time 20:25, it was allowed to climb to a final altitude of 34,000 feet.
  • At local time 20:31, the aircraft declared PAN-PAN, PAN-PAN, PAN-PAN (a level below the MAYDAY alert, which is the most critical urgency code in flight) while at approximately 32,000 feet, stating that there was a General Electric Failure and requested a radar vector (flight route) to return to Ankara.
  • At local time 20:32, the Air Traffic Controller informed the aircraft of the flight heading and the level to descend for a return to Esenboğa Airport.
  • At local time 20:33, the emergency code 7700 (the most critical urgency code in flight) was activated by the pilot on board. Following the confirmation of the problem by the Air Traffic Controller, the altitude information of the aircraft could no longer be tracked on radar.
  • At local time 20:34, due to interference in the Pilot-Controller Communication, the Air Traffic Controller conducted a check with the pilot for voice level control.
  • At local time 20:34, the aircraft was handed over to the Approach Control Unit after confirming the level for an emergency return to Esenboğa Airport with the pilot.
  • At local time 20:35, the aircraft declared PAN-PAN, PAN-PAN, PAN-PAN and contacted the Approach Control Unit for a return to Esenboğa Airport, receiving radar vector and descent levels.
  • At local time 20:36, the understandability in the Pilot-Controller Communication was lost, and the pilot's voice became difficult to hear. Additionally, there were partial losses of flight information on the radar screen.
  • At local time 20:38, it was observed by the Air Traffic Controller that the aircraft could not be fully seen on the radar screen.
  • At local time 20:38, no response was received to the calls made to the aircraft by the Air Traffic Controller, and attempts were made to reach the aircraft from different frequencies for about 5 minutes, but no response was received. Subsequently, our personnel were quickly informed to initiate search and rescue operations.
