The first hearing of the school attack that occurred at Ayser Çalık Middle School in Kahramanmaraş on April 15 will be held on September 4. According to the indictment, for the father of the perpetrator İsa Aras Mersinli, Uğur Mersinli, 10 aggravated life sentences were sought for the 10 people who lost their lives on charges of 'murder by eventual intent', while a prison sentence of up to 30 years was sought for the injured children. For the mother, Peyman Pınar Mersinli, a prison sentence of up to 22.5 years was requested within the scope of 'conscious negligence'.

The trial opened following the armed attack at Ayser Çalık Middle School in Kahramanmaraş on April 15, in which teacher Ayla Kara and 9 students lost their lives, will be heard on September 4. Özcan Kara, the lawyer for the family of teacher Ayla Kara, who lost her life in the attack, made statements about the striking details in the indictment.

In the indictment, while 10 aggravated life sentences were sought for Uğur Mersinli, the father of the student İsa Aras Mersinli who carried out the attack, for the 10 people who lost their lives on charges of 'murder by eventual intent', a prison sentence of up to 30 years was also sought for the injured children. For İsa Aras Mersinli's mother, Peyman Pınar Mersinli, a prison sentence of up to 22.5 years was requested within the scope of 'conscious negligence'.

It was stated in the indictment that the Maraş chest, which Uğur Mersinli claimed in his defense to have used to store the pistols, was examined and it was determined that only one gun could fit in this chest. Thus, it was stated that the defense that 7 guns were kept in this chest did not align with the findings in the indictment. The indictment also included information that the school had made 32 verbal and written notifications to the family regarding İsa Aras Mersinli's psychological condition. Despite this, it was stated that the family did not carry out the necessary hospital applications, and that findings indicating the student received shooting training at a shooting range were also in the file.

"The Maraş chest is in a position where only one gun can fit"

Özcan Kara, the lawyer for Ayla Kara's family, stated that the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has completed its investigation into the incident and said, "It sent the indictment to the court. We can state the prominent headings in the indictment as follows. First, the argument referred to as the Maraş chest, which the suspect Uğur Mersinli mentioned in his defense as being used for storing the pistols, is in a position where only one gun can fit. That is, it is not in a position where 7 guns can fit and be stored. Therefore, the suspect's defense is refuted here. It appears that the guns were kept unsecured and unprotected, and these findings are included in the indictment. Additionally, the school reported 32 times verbally and in writing that the child's psychological condition was not good. The family remained indifferent to the situation and did not ensure hospital applications. Moreover, shooting training was also provided at the shooting range. These are truly very serious negligence. The prosecutor's office prepared the indictment against the suspect Uğur Mersinli on the grounds of murder by eventual intent. What is eventual intent? It is an act close to intent, therefore, 10 aggravated life sentences are sought for Uğur Mersinli. For the other injured children, a prison sentence of up to 30 years is also sought. The mother, Peyman Pınar Mersinli, due to her negligence in failing to ensure hospital referral despite the school's notifications and in failing to have the father take necessary precautions to secure the guns, was sent to the indictment for punishment with up to 22.5 years in prison for conscious negligence, and the court accepted this," he said.

"Precautionary seizure proceedings for 10 properties"

Stating that seizure proceedings have also begun on 10 properties belonging to the school attacker's father, Uğur Mersinli, in Mersin, Lawyer Kara said, "At this stage, enforcement proceedings are ongoing. Precautionary seizure proceedings are underway for 10 properties. Of course, the characteristics, values, and locations of these properties will emerge during the sales phase following the result of the compensation lawsuit we filed. This enforcement process will continue. Will there be inflows and outflows to bank accounts? As concrete measures, such as blocking accounts, precautionary seizure annotations have been placed on 10 properties," he stated.

Within the scope of the case, during the hearing to be held on September 4, the parties' requests in the judicial process and the evaluation of the evidence in the file are expected.
