In the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa, 19-year-old Ömer Ket, who was sent away from his school and returned with a hunting rifle, injuring 16 people randomly, and ended his life when he realized he would be caught, was quietly laid to rest during the night. Ket's family was taken under state protection for security reasons and relocated to another place.

INJURED 16 PEOPLE AND THEN COMMITTED SUICIDE

The incident occurred yesterday at Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School on Rüştü Küçükömer Street in Hasan Çelebi Neighborhood of the district. Ömer Ket, who was reported to have been held back in class and expelled from school due to absenteeism and later transferred to an open education high school, came to his former school with a shotgun. Ket entered the school building and opened fire on those he encountered, injuring 16 people. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the address upon reports from the surroundings. In the attack, 10 students, 4 teachers, police officer Emre Çopur, and the cafeteria operator were injured. The injured were taken to hospitals and treated. It was reported that teacher Cihat Edim, who was being treated at Siverek State Hospital, was in serious condition. It was also reported that some students jumped from classroom windows to escape the attack. Meanwhile, Ket, realizing he would be caught by the teams, ended his own life with the rifle.

HAD PROBLEMS WITH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION

It was also determined that Ket, who was reported to work in a restaurant doing delivery service, had problems with the school administration and made threatening posts on social media. In the posts, it was found that Ket used expressions such as 'Be ready, there will be an attack at this school in a few days' and 'See you tomorrow, I will destroy all of you'. It was stated that Ket, whose father is a construction worker and who lived in a family of 9, blamed the school administration for his failure in his educational life and harbored resentment for this reason. It was also noted that the suspect played violent games on the computer and frequently used the expression 'kill' in his social media posts. On the other hand, it was reported that two of Ket's friends were detained on the grounds of having revenge-themed correspondence on social media.

7 PEOPLE DISCHARGED

Şanlıurfa Governor Hasan Şıldak, in a statement regarding the attack, said, "7 of the 16 injured have been discharged. It has been determined that the attacker was a former student of the school, only attended up to the 9th grade, and was later registered at an open education high school."

BURIED AT NIGHT

After the autopsy procedures at the Forensic Medicine Institute, Ömer Ket's body was handed over to his relatives. The body, which was taken to Şanlıurfa instead of Siverek for security reasons, was buried at the New Cemetery under police escort during the night. Following the incident, the attacker's family was also taken out of the district and placed under state protection.

The Şanlıurfa Governorate also announced that 2 district police department officials and 2 district national education administrators were removed from their duties in connection with the incident.
