The special gift presented to MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli during his meeting with Rahmi Koç and Ali Koç drew attention. It has been revealed that the rare banknote known as "Wolf-themed 5 lira," presented in a frame, is a highly valuable piece in the world of collectibles.
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli welcomed Koç Holding Honorary Chairman Rahmi Koç and Koç Holding Deputy Chairman of the Board Ali Koç at his office. It was learned that during the meeting, the Koç family invited Bahçeli to the 100th-anniversary events of the Koç Group.
In a statement made by the MHP, it said, “We thank them for their kind visit and invitation.” The gift presented to Bahçeli in the photo shared after the meeting became a topic of discussion.
“5 LIRA WITH GRAY WOLF” GIFTED
According to journalist Toygun Atilla’s report in Patronlar Dünyası, it was noted that the banknote in the frame is one of the rare coins known among collectors as the “5 Lira with Gray Wolf.”
It was stated that the banknote, officially named “1st Emission 5 Turkish Lira,” is among the first emission coins of the Republic. It was reported that the banknote, which entered circulation in 1927, has been known by this name for years due to the gray wolf figure on it.
It was emphasized that the gray wolf symbol is one of the important icons of the national identity concept being formed during the early Republic period, and it was noted that the figure was used in many areas from stamps to public institutions at that time.
VALUE CAN REACH UP TO 20 THOUSAND DOLLARS
It was stated that the price of the banknote, considered quite valuable in the collection world, varies depending on its serial number, condition, signature group, and rarity. According to experts, well-preserved specimens can find buyers between 15 and 20 thousand dollars at international auctions.
Meanwhile, the information that the banknote was printed in England also drew attention. It was learned that the inscription “Thomas De La Rue & Company Limited Londres” at the bottom of the money belongs to one of the important security printing companies of the period.
