Approximately 4 million Syrians in Turkey have become involved in production and the economy, particularly in the agriculture, construction, textile, and various industrial sectors. It is estimated that if the conditions become favorable for Syrians to return to their home country, these sectors will be the most affected.
Millions of Syrians are preparing to return to their country following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria. The employment of millions of people who have been in Turkey for a long time in various sectors has raised concerns about the potential labor shortage that their departure could cause.
Approximately 4 million Syrians in Turkey are already involved in production and the economy, particularly in agriculture, construction, textiles, and various industrial sectors. Experts emphasize that if Syrians suddenly withdraw from all sectors to return to their country, it could pose a risk; however, if the return is spread over time, this risk could be minimized.
RETURN OF SYRIANS MAY REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT IN TURKEY
It is noted that the return of Syrian refugees will particularly create job vacancies in the mentioned sectors. This situation is expected to provide alternative job opportunities for Turkish workers employed in these sectors or create opportunities for the unemployed to enter the workforce. If this scenario materializes, it is quite possible that unemployment rates in Turkey will significantly decrease in the upcoming period.
EXPECTATION OF A DECLINE IN RENT PRICES
With the return of Syrians, a change in the urban structure is also anticipated. It is expected that housing prices and rents in cities where Syrians predominantly live will temporarily decrease. Thus, there may be a rebalancing in the housing market, especially in metropolitan areas.
