SHE WAS ATTACKED WITH A FIREARM AFTER THE CELEBRATION The incident occurred on the evening of July 15, 2025, on 50th Street in the Şehitlik Neighborhood of Yenişehir district. İlayda Alkaş was attacked with a firearm by Cemal Alpaslan, with whom she had lived in a religious marriage and from whom she had separated, as she was going to her family's home after her friend's birthday. Alkaş collapsed to the ground, while Cemal Alpaslan fled. İlayda Alkaş, who was taken to Selahaddin Eyyubi State Hospital by an ambulance dispatched to the address after a report, could not be saved despite all interventions. Cemal Alpaslan was detained 5 months after the incident, on December 15, at the Habur Land Border Gate in Şırnak. Alpaslan, who was brought to Diyarbakır, was arrested in the court he was brought before after his procedures.
12 BULLET ENTRY WOUNDS DETECTED In the indictment prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the murder, it was stated that suspect Cemal Alpaslan sat at a coffeehouse at the scene of the incident and waited for İlayda Alkaş to come home, and that there were 12 bullet entry wounds on various parts of the young woman's body. In the indictment, an aggravated life imprisonment sentence was requested for Cemal Alpaslan on the charge of "premeditated intentional killing of a divorced spouse."
"I FIRED RANDOMLY" Defendant Cemal Alpaslan and his lawyers, the complainant's lawyers, and a lawyer from the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services attended the third hearing of the case at the Diyarbakır 7th High Criminal Court. Making his defense at the hearing, defendant Cemal Alpaslan claimed that he fired randomly at İlayda and said, "I loved my late wife very much. I wanted to go to her because I was going to experience fatherhood for the first time. My purpose in going there was not to fight. I went to talk to my wife. As soon as my wife saw me, she looked at me and said, 'Why are you following me? I had the child aborted,' and at that moment the blood rushed to my brain. At that moment I understood that she had aborted the child. Then I fired randomly. After that I left the scene by taxi. After I came to my senses near the airport, I called my brother. He brought me money. I was also carrying the gun because of my father's and uncle's enemies. I went to the village. I stayed there for a few days. Then I made a deal with a truck driver to go to the border gate. I went to the border. At that moment I wanted to take refuge in Turkish justice. I wish that incident had never happened. I loved my wife very much. It is her mother who caused what happened to my wife and child. I do not forgive them. I am regretful; I seek refuge in your justice," he said.
AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCE IMPOSED While the prosecution requested the continuation of the detention, the defendant's lawyers stated that the murder was committed due to unjust provocation and that an unjust provocation reduction should be applied. The lawyers of the deceased, on the other hand, requested that Cemal Alpaslan be punished for the crime of "premeditated intentional killing."
The court panel sentenced Cemal Alpaslan to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing," and to 2.5 years in prison and a fine of 20,000 Turkish lira for the crime of "possessing an unlicensed firearm."
